Itinerary

Day 1: Balmaceda – Mallin Colorado

You will be greeted at the Balmaceda Airport and we will drive you about 5 hours (150 miles) to the lodge, along the extremely scenic Carretera Austral. Lunch will be provided with a view of magnificent mountain peaks in Cerro Castillo village. You will arrive at the Mallín Colorado Ecolodge, in time to settle into your cabin before dinner is served.

Day 2: Bertrand Lake and Cordón Contreras

Breakfast will be served in the main lodge. Today it is a boat ride on lake Bertrand and private views of Cordón Contreras. Here you can do a short hike to the Cascada, with the local owner and former inhabitant of this amazing property under the glaciers of Cordón Contreras. With a picnic lunch in this secluded spot of the lake, you can have the possibility to swim in the turquoise waters of the lake. In the afternoon, go back to Puerto Bertrand and then to the lodge for dinner in the main house.

Day 3: Tamango National Reserve and Patagonia Park

Breakfast will be served at 8:00 AM in the main lodge, so that we may get an early start on our drive to Tamango Reserve. After Puerto Bertrand, we will follow a short trail to witness the mighty power of the rapids at the confluence of the Baker River and the Nef River. We will then visit the town of Cochrane, and Tamango Reserve along river Cochrane. Picnic lunch and nice walk in the park to discover the huemul, the Chilean deer in danger of extinction, a calm and shy deer of the southern latitudes of America. On the road back to the lodge, and if it is there enough time, we will visit Patagonia Park in a privileged ecosystem, full of guanacos, foxes, condors and interesting wildlife. Back to the lodge Mallin Colorado for dinner.

Day 4: Marble caves and Exploradores glacier

Today it is another full day out of the lodge. After breakfast you will start driving to the north and visit the marble caves on the shores of lake General Carrera. After 45 minutes in a small boat, visiting each cave and different rock formations at the level of the water, you will start driving to the west, in direction to the Northern Ice fields, until the entrance to glacier Exploradores. First you will start walking through a nice humid forest to climb a small stones hill up to the top, where you can see the hugh tongue of the glacier, falling from San Valentín peaks. Arrival in the lodge for dinner, eventually for a lamb barbecue in the typical quincho.
